Meet your Director of Public Safety

Daniel Baldwin, a retired law enforcement professional from New Jersey, with over 25 years of sworn law enforcement experience, is the Associate Vice President and Director of Public Safety for Saint Augustine’s University. In addition to his extensive career in public safety, Mr. Baldwin  is the former owner of a private security firm, successfully managing high-profile projects valued between $125 million and $1.2 billion.

After relocating to North Carolina, he worked at Duke University, where he conducted behavioral risk assessments and criminal investigations for the university and its medical facilities.  Mr. Baldwin also formerly worked at the North Carolina Department of Justice as a criminal justice specialist for the Criminal Justice Standards Division; and as a consultant for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

He possesses a master’s degree in Administrative Science, and certificates in Diversity Equity and Inclusion, Human Resource Management, and North Carolina Advanced Law Enforcement.

Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Baldwin received numerous law enforcement awards and commendations. He is the recipient of The National Association of Police Organizations “TOP COP” award, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund “Officer of the Month”, and several other premier national accolades. He received this national recognition for his leadership and investigative role in the Charles Cullen Investigation. Charles Cullen, a former critical care nurse who was convicted of murdering 29 patients, is acknowledged as one of America’s most prolific serial killers. Mr. Baldwin was highlighted in a New York Times Best Seller book, and portrayed in a Netflix movie about Charles Cullen netitled, “The Good Nurse.” Mr. Baldwin was also a contributor for a Netflix documentary entitled, “Capturing the Killer Nurse.”

In addition to his law enforcement experience, he has shared his knowledge as an adjunct professor of Criminal Justice at Monmouth University and Brookdale Community College. He has also served as a guest lecturer for the Maryland Polygraph Association, in partnership with the National Security Agency and for the New Jersey State Police. Mr. Baldwin is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and former vice president of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives Central New Jersey chapter.
